The West Buncombe Fire Department’s Board of Directors, a crucial pillar of our community, comprises eleven members who are residents of the district. Board members, elected for a staggered three-year term, hold the responsibility of exercising complete direction and control of all the corporation’s business, property, and affairs. Fire Department operations and financial management are overseen by the Fire Chief.
Interested in serving as a Director? Please note that Directors must be 18 or older, subject to the fire tax of the West Buncombe Volunteer Fire Department, Incorporated, and must reside, as their primary residence, within the district. Additionally, you may not be a compensated fire department member or have an immediate family member already serving as a director.
Directors are elected at the annual meeting of members on the second Tuesday in July. Nominations for directors are open from April 1st until May 31st, and applications are available on this website or by obtaining one in person, M-F, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm at Station 1, 549 Old County Home Rd., Asheville. Those seeking election must consent to a background check by signing a disclosure and authorization release and are responsible for the cost of conducting the background check.
