Educational Programs and Safety Requests

All education requests must be submitted at least three weeks in advance by completing the request form below or emailing matthew.ruff@wbfd.org.

Our educational programs are available at NO cost to West Buncombe residents!

Educational Programs Offered

School-Age Fire Safety Programs

Our comprehensive fire safety program follows NFPA standards and provides engaging lessons for Pre-K to High School students. Sessions range from 30 minutes to 1 hour, covering essential fire safety topics such as smoke alarms, evacuation procedures, and proper fire extinguisher use. These age-appropriate lessons aim to instill lifelong fire safety habits.

30-45 minutes per classroom

Fire Safety Field Trip to the Station

Take an exciting field trip to the West Buncombe Fire Department! Participants will explore firefighting equipment, learn about daily operations, and gain valuable safety protocols tailored to the group’s age level. This 2-hour session provides an immersive look into the world of firefighting and fire safety.

Kindergarten to High School

Fire Safety In the Workplace

This program is designed for working-age adults and focuses on NFPA fire safety guidelines specific to the workplace. It includes emergency evacuation procedures, proper fire extinguisher use, and tips on maintaining a safe work environment. This comprehensive 1-hour training prepares employees to act effectively in the event of a fire.

Workplace employees (Ages 16-70)

Fire Extinguisher Training

Learn the proper use of a multi-purpose fire extinguisher in this hands-on, interactive training session. The program covers essential fire extinguisher techniques, safety protocols, and practical demonstrations. Electricity is required for this 1-hour session, making it an engaging and educational experience.

Safety Programs for Civic and Business Groups

Looking for a program for your church, civic, or business organization? We offer tailored safety presentations to meet the unique needs of your group. Let us help you promote fire safety in your community!

Station Tours

Fire station tours are available at both West Buncombe Fire Department stations and are suitable for all age groups. These tours are a great way to learn about firefighting equipment and operations.

Truck Displays

We offer educational access to WBFD fire trucks for special events. Fire apparatus is available for up to two hours, though please note that they may be required to leave for emergency calls during your event.
